The saddest thing for me about this picture is the lovely row of old Victorian gas lamps. When the gas was eventually switched off, and the 'leeries' all dismissed, most of these beauties were sold off to private buyers, with the majority of the stock going oversea.
If you are ever on holiday, especially in the United States, and spy something similar, have a look at its base and you just might spot the Glasgow coat of arms.
